MOHAMMED MEHMOOD COWLEY SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR ATTACK ON BOY IN OXFORD

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Cowley and the wider Oxford area, Mohammed Mehmood, aged 44, was sentenced to six years in prison following his conviction for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy. The incident, which took place in East Oxford, has left the young victim suffering from recurring nightmares and in need of ongoing psychological support, according to his distressed parents.

Mehmood, who resides on Crowell Road in Cowley, was found guilty after admitting to both a sexual assault and a more serious sexual assault on the young boy. The court heard that Mehmood had lured the boy by falsely claiming to be a taxi driver, an act that compounded the betrayal of trust and the severity of the crime.

The sentencing came after a detailed court hearing where it was revealed that Mehmood, who had previously served time for a similar offense, was likely to be released in less than three years. Specifically, he had already served 134 days on remand, and given that prisoners typically serve only half of their sentences, he was expected to be out in under two years and eight months.

During the proceedings, the boy’s mother expressed her outrage and disappointment, stating, “It’s a disgrace, I’m disgusted. He should have been jailed for life. I could understand if it was his first offence, but he was already on the sex offenders’ register.” Her words reflected the community’s concern over the repeated nature of Mehmood’s crimes.

It was also disclosed that Mehmood had a prior conviction from 2006, when he was sentenced to 30 months in prison after assaulting an eight-year-old girl in Blackbird Leys. That earlier case involved similar disturbing behavior, including buying sweets for the young girl and abusing her while she was under his care.

Prosecutor Matthew Walsh detailed the recent attack, explaining that on June 8, the 13-year-old boy was walking to South Park in East Oxford around 6 pm to play football when Mehmood pulled up in a silver Hyundai. The driver approached the boy and asked, “I’m a taxi, where are you going?”

Despite the boy’s indication that he had no money, Mehmood claimed the ride was free and on the house. As the journey continued, the court was told, Mehmood took a convoluted route and began asking the boy inappropriate questions about sex. The situation escalated when Mehmood drove to a secluded area near Southfield Golf Club, where he committed two serious sexual assaults before the boy managed to escape and seek help from a passing cyclist.

Following the incident, Mehmood’s taxi driver’s license was revoked, a consequence of his 2006 conviction. His defense lawyer, Stephen Bailey, who communicated through a Punjabi interpreter, argued that his client was suffering from depression due to the recent death of his father and his inability to support his mother in Pakistan. Bailey also admitted that Mehmood has a problematic attraction to young boys but insisted that his judgment was clouded during the incident and emphasized that his client had shown remorse.

Judge Christopher Compston addressed the court, acknowledging the profound impact of the assault on the young victim. “The effect on this young man we will never know. For all we know, in the 15 to 20 minutes you were with him, you may have damaged him for life,” he said. The judge recognized the risk Mehmood posed to the public, citing the potential for serious harm, but stopped short of imposing a life sentence, stating that Mehmood was not considered dangerous enough for such a penalty. Instead, he was sentenced to six years in prison, with an extended period of license supervision.

It was also noted that Mehmood had previously admitted to a similar offense involving an eight-year-old girl, which resulted in a 30-month sentence. The court was told that he had targeted an extremely vulnerable child, whom he was supposed to be driving to school, and that he had bought her sweets during the abuse. Judge Anthony King emphasized that Mehmood would pose a “continuing risk” after his release and therefore ordered a ban on him working unsupervised with children, aiming to prevent any future harm.
