MOHAMMED KAMMER AND HUDDERSFIELD GROOMING GANG MEMBERS SENTENCED FOR REPEATED OFFENCES IN WEST YORKSHIRE

A group of five men, all previously convicted for their involvement in a notorious grooming gang operating in Huddersfield, have been found guilty of committing additional serious offences. The men, including Abdul Rehman, Mohammed Kammer, Nahman Mohammed, Wiqas Mahmud, and Mohammed Imran Ibrar, faced justice at Leeds Crown Court, where their crimes spanning over several years were thoroughly examined.

These individuals were implicated in a disturbing series of abuses against a young girl, with the offences taking place between 2005 and 2010. The victim, who was only 14 years old at the start of the abuse, endured a series of heinous acts that included rape and drug supply. The trial, which concluded on February 9, revealed the extent of their criminal activities, leading to their conviction and subsequent sentencing at Bradford Crown Court.

According to the West Yorkshire Police, the investigation into child sexual abuse in Huddersfield, known as Operation Tendersea, uncovered a disturbing pattern of exploitation that persisted from 1995 through 2013. The operation has resulted in over 500 years of combined prison sentences handed down to those involved in the sexual offences, highlighting the severity and scale of the criminal network.

During the recent trial, the defendants were convicted for a second time, having previously served time for their crimes. Abdul Rehman, aged 36 and hailing from Sheffield, was sentenced to three years and eleven months after being found guilty of facilitating child sex offences and supplying drugs. Mohammed Kammer, 38, from Huddersfield, received a sentence of seven years and six months for three counts of rape and one trafficking for sexual exploitation offence. Nahman Mohammed, aged 37 and also from Huddersfield, was sentenced to seven years after being convicted of two rape offences and trafficking for sexual exploitation.

Wiqas Mahmud, 42, from Huddersfield, was handed a sentence of six years and three months for a single rape offence. Mohammed Imran Ibrar, 38, also from Huddersfield, was sentenced to five years for sexual assault and one rape offence; however, due to time already served, he will serve three years and six months in total. These sentences reflect the gravity of their crimes and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat such heinous acts.

Operation Tendersea, which began its investigations in 2018, has successfully secured convictions against 42 men, some of whom have faced multiple trials. Detective Chief Inspector Ian Thornes of West Yorkshire Police described the operation as a significant effort to address what he called “truly evil sexual abuse.” He emphasized that the victims, vulnerable young teenage girls, suffered unimaginable trauma at the hands of individuals whose conduct rendered them unfit to walk the streets. The police continue to urge anyone affected by similar issues to seek support, with resources available through the BBC Action Line.
