DUNDEE MAN ACCUSED OF PLOTTING SON'S-IN-LAW MURDER
A Muslim man's attempt to hire a hitman to kill his son-in-law was exposed during a court case.Mohammed Arshad, aged 49, reportedly told an undercover police officer that he wanted his daughter's new husband "removed from this earth" and was heard negotiating the price for the killing, which was more than £500.
A tape recording of the conversation taken in a Dundee hotel was played in court.
Arshad, a prominent member of Dundee's Muslim community and a father of five, denies incitement to murder and a breach of the peace by making threatening calls to his son-in-law.
The police had secretly taped two conversations with him.
During one, he expressed concern that his daughter had married without his knowledge, stating: "My daughter has been seeing someone without my knowledge.
They got married and she has gone away." Prosecutors said Arshad had handed over £200 in an advance payment and photographs of his target to recognize his son-in-law.
The court noted that Arshad's family was shocked by the marriage of Insha, 26, to Abdullah Yasin, 26, especially because it was conducted in secret and outside their cultural traditions.
The trial is ongoing.
