MOHAMMAD LIAQAT FROM GLASGOW AND TILLICOULTRY INDICTED FOR OVER TWO YEARS OF DOMESTIC ABUSE

A woman in Tillicoultry endured a prolonged period of domestic abuse that lasted more than two years, during which she was subjected to various forms of physical violence and emotional torment. The abusive conduct included physical assaults such as being bitten, pushed onto a bed, and punched in the head, all inflicted by the same individual. The perpetrator, identified as 35-year-old Mohammad Liaqat, who resides on Leslie Street in Glasgow, admitted to engaging in this pattern of abusive behavior from July 21, 2021, until October 9, 2023.

Throughout this period, Liaqat’s actions were characterized by relentless accusations of infidelity, frequent shouting matches, and the sending of abusive, sexual, and threatening messages. His conduct also involved making explicit threats against the woman and referring to her using derogatory terms, further escalating the emotional and psychological abuse she endured. The physical violence was complemented by these verbal assaults, creating a deeply harmful environment for the victim.

The incidents took place at Liaqat’s residence on Hareburn Road in Tillicoultry, as well as other unspecified locations. The case was brought before Sheriff Neil Bowie, who decided to defer sentencing until September 12. This delay was granted to allow for an assessment related to a domestic offenders' program, aimed at addressing the underlying issues contributing to Liaqat’s behavior. In addition to the deferred sentencing, Sheriff Bowie imposed a four-year non-harassment order to protect the victim from further contact or intimidation.
