MOHAMMAD KHAN FROM THORNTON HEATH JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN LONDON
In a recent and highly concerning case, Mohammad Khan, a 46-year-old resident of Thornton Heath, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of possessing and sharing indecent images of children. Khan, who has a history of similar offenses, was arrested in March following an investigation that uncovered his involvement with illicit material.According to court proceedings, the case was brought to light when police identified a Google Drive account on January 23, 2023, that contained a staggering 387 indecent images of minors. Investigations traced this account directly back to Khan, who was identified as the user responsible for uploading the illicit content. It was revealed that Khan was a registered sex offender, and he was under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) that explicitly prohibited him from using certain electronic devices and online platforms.
The police action was swift. Officers apprehended Khan near his former partner’s residence in Wandsworth. During the search, they recovered a laptop and an iPhone from the property. Further investigation uncovered a laptop hidden beneath Khan’s pillow at his mother’s house, which also contained evidence of his illegal activities. The recovered devices were examined, and the images were confirmed to be stored on a Dell laptop, which was seized as part of the evidence collection.
Khan’s legal situation is compounded by his admission to multiple breaches of the SHPO. He confessed to 11 violations of the order, which was put in place following his initial conviction in 2016. That first conviction resulted in a community order and the issuance of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Despite these measures, Khan continued his offending, and in 2017, he received a suspended sentence for similar offenses, indicating a pattern of repeated criminal behavior.
During the court hearing at the Old Bailey, Khan’s defense highlighted that this was his first time experiencing incarceration, and he expressed that prison life had been a “significant shock” that he was struggling to adapt to. His barrister emphasized his remorse and the impact of his previous convictions.
Prosecutor Obi Mgbokwere outlined the severity of the case, describing the images as “truly horrific” and emphasizing the gravity of Khan’s actions. The judge, Simon Farrell KC, acknowledged the disturbing nature of the images and the seriousness of the offenses. In his sentencing remarks, Judge Farrell stated that given the circumstances, only a custodial sentence would suffice.
Consequently, Mohammad Khan was sentenced to 19 months in prison. Additionally, a new Sexual Harm Prevention Order was imposed, which will remain in effect for the next ten years, aiming to prevent any future offenses and protect the public from further harm.
