MIRCEA PAUL ANGHELINA SUSSEX NURSE STRUCK OFF AFTER CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE
In April 2013, Mircea Paul Anghelina, a Romanian national and former nurse based in East Sussex, was officially removed from the nursing register following his conviction for a serious sexual assault involving a young boy. The incident, which occurred outside of his professional duties, led to a significant disciplinary action by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, resulting in his disqualification from practicing as a nurse.Anghelina’s legal troubles culminated in his appearance at Lewes Crown Court, where he was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault against a male child under the age of 13. The court’s judgment, delivered in April 2012, sentenced him to 18 months in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years and was disqualified from working with children in any capacity.
Despite the incident taking place outside of his professional environment, the Nursing and Midwifery Council took decisive action, deeming his conduct to be misconduct that warranted his removal from the register. A disciplinary panel reviewed his case and decided to strike him off, effectively ending his career as a nurse in the UK.
Prior to his removal, Anghelina was scheduled for a hearing in March 2013, where the charges and his conviction were set to be discussed further. The case drew attention to the importance of safeguarding standards within healthcare professions and underscored the serious consequences faced by practitioners found guilty of criminal behavior involving minors.
