Rajasooriar had been communicating via WhatsApp, sending messages of a sexual nature to whom he believed was a 13-year-old, and arranging a meeting.
However, he was met by specialist officers from the South East Regional Crime Unit (SEROCU), who promptly detained him.
The investigation was intelligence-led and proactive, focusing on the prevention of child sexual exploitation.
Following his arrest, authorities examined his phone, discovering an indecent image of a child.
Rajasooriar pleaded guilty at Guildford Crown Court on October 26 to attempting sexual communication with a child and to facilitating or arranging a child sex offence.
On October 27, Rajasooriar was sentenced to 30 months in prison for attempting to commit child sex offences.
He will be placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely and subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will last for the duration of his registration.
Detective Inspector Phil Attwood of SEROCU commented, "Rajasooriar believed he was going to meet a 13-year-old girl for sex but was arrested thanks to our proactive operations.
He pleaded guilty to overwhelming evidence against him.
When he is released, he will be registered as a sex offender and will be subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order." He emphasised the importance of reporting abuse, urging victims to contact their local police by dialling 101.
"We will always investigate allegations of abuse, regardless of when they occurred.
Victims can speak confidentially with experienced investigators, and we can help connect them with support services," added DI Attwood.
This successful operation underscores the continued efforts of SEROCU to protect children from sexual exploitation and prevent harm from individuals seeking to offend.
