BRADFORD MAN JAILED FOR PERSISTENT STALKING AND HARASSMENT
A persistent stalker named Milan Kaleja, aged 48, has been sentenced to over two years in prison after engaging in a series of damaging and threatening behaviors towards his victim in Bradford. The court heard that Kaleja's offending began soon after a non-molestation order was granted to protect the complainant in March 2024.
Despite this legal order, Kaleja repeatedly took actions that violated it.
He initially appeared at her home within three weeks, kicking her door and verbally abusing her.
Prosecutor Jeremy Barton explained that Kaleja, who denied knowing about the court order, was arrested but later released on bail.
Not long after, Kaleja committed another breach by threatening to break her windows and indicating he would harm her if she called the police again.
CCTV footage later showed Kaleja leaving her property through a kitchen window when she returned after staying away for four days, during which her landlord confirmed he had not changed the locks.
Kaleja had also changed the locks himself, which was confirmed as an offence when a locksmith found him inside, causing the woman to run away.
The woman managed to film some of Kaleja's threatening behavior, but he attempted to claim the footage was old.
Ultimately, Kaleja pleaded guilty to one count of stalking and four breaches of the non-molestation order.
Judge David Gordon sentenced him to 34 months in prison and imposed a restraining order forbidding him from contacting the victim or going within 100 meters of her for the next 15 years.
The court acknowledged that Kaleja showed some remorse late in proceedings, but his actions had significantly traumatized the victim, who had to alter her lifestyle due to fear.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offending and the impact on the complainant, highlighting that Kaleja's threats and unannounced visits had caused her fear and distress.
