MICHEAL PERKINS SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS IN DARLINGTON AND ROTHERHAM

A man from Rotherham, who has since taken residence in Darlington, has been handed a seven-year prison sentence after being convicted of serious sexual offenses involving two young girls aged seven and eight. The conviction was secured by a jury at Sheffield Crown Court, where the defendant, Micheal Perkins, aged 28, was found guilty of three separate charges related to the abuse.

Perkins, who currently resides on Morley Street in Rawmarsh, was subjected to a trial in January during which the court heard detailed allegations of his misconduct. The jury convicted him of one count of sexually touching the seven-year-old girl and two counts of intimately touching the eight-year-old girl. These acts, which occurred in the context of the girls' innocence and vulnerability, caused significant harm, as emphasized by Judge Rosalind Coe during the sentencing hearing.

When addressing Perkins in court on Tuesday, Judge Coe made it clear that the impact of his actions was profound, stating, “These were young girls who suffered significant harm.” Her words underscored the gravity of the offenses and the need for a strong custodial sentence to reflect the seriousness of the crimes.

Throughout the proceedings, Perkins’s legal representative, Ms. Megan Rhys, maintained that her client vehemently denied the allegations. Despite his denials, the evidence presented at trial was sufficient for the jury to reach a guilty verdict on all counts.
