BEXLEYHEATH MAN MICHAL KOWILSKI SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES ON BUSES IN BEXLEYHEATH AND BROMLEY

In a serious case of public indecency and sexual misconduct, Michal Kowilski, a 29-year-old resident of Bexleyheath, has been sentenced to six weeks in prison following two separate incidents involving inappropriate behavior on public buses in the areas of Bexleyheath, Bromley, and Sidcup.

The first incident occurred on April 7, 2011, when Kowilski was accused of exposing himself to a 16-year-old girl while she was traveling on a bus passing through Sidcup High Street. According to court reports, the victim was seated at the back of the number 51 bus around 1 pm when she noticed the defendant moving his arms in a suspicious manner. Upon further observation, she saw that he was masturbating. Shocked and distressed by the incident, she immediately reported the matter to the bus driver. During police interviews, Kowilski denied the allegations, claiming that the victim was lying. He then disembarked from the bus and walked back towards Sidcup.

It was initially believed that Kowilski was not responsible for this incident because police had arrested another man using an Oyster card with the same name. However, further investigations led to his detention and subsequent charging after a second incident involving a different teenage girl.

The second incident took place on October 23 of the following year, when Kowilski was on the number 320 bus traveling through Bromley High Street at approximately 7 am. The victim, a young girl on her way to school, was accompanied by her younger brother when she noticed Kowilski staring at her. As she passed by him, she smiled, but then felt a hand grab and squeeze her bottom. She reacted immediately, shouting, “what do you think you are doing, you paedophile,” in an attempt to confront him. Despite her protests, Kowilski did not respond. When questioned by police, he claimed that he did not touch the girl and that his intention was to take a photograph up her skirt, asserting that he had a mobile phone in his hand at the time. Kowilski also admitted to being hungover and possibly still intoxicated from vodka consumed the previous evening.

During the court proceedings, Kowilski’s defense solicitor, Christopher Carter, acknowledged the severity of the offenses, describing them as “abhorrent.” He stated that his client accepted responsibility, expressed remorse, and recognized that he has a problem he wishes to address. Kowilski, who has no prior criminal record, pleaded guilty on December 20 to charges of outraging public decency and sexual assault on a female.

District Judge Robert Hunter sentenced Kowilski to six weeks in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for a period of seven years, reflecting the seriousness with which the court viewed his actions and the need for ongoing monitoring of his conduct.
