MICHAEL WOOD FROM BATH CAUGHT WITH INDECENT IMAGES OF GIRLS UNDER 11
In November 2018, a man from Bath, identified as Michael Gareth Wood, aged 60, faced serious allegations related to the possession and creation of indecent images and videos involving young girls. The case was brought before Bath Magistrates’ Court, where Wood appeared to answer charges that could lead to significant sentencing.
Wood, residing on Coxley Drive in Larkhall, was formally charged with three counts of making indecent photographs of a child, with the alleged offenses occurring on or before September 26, 2017.
The first charge detailed that while at his residence, Wood downloaded five Category A indecent images and videos depicting children, which are classified as the most severe category of such material.
The second charge accused him of downloading three images and videos categorized as Category B, which are considered less severe but still illegal.
The third charge claimed that Wood created a total of 39 indecent images and videos classified as Category C, indicating a significant collection of illicit material.
On October 17, 2018, Wood pleaded guilty to all charges, a decision that prompted a subsequent hearing scheduled for November 7.
During this session, prosecutor Jane Cooper provided insight into Wood’s actions and mindset.
She stated, “He knew it was wrong but sometimes the impulse was too strong and he couldn’t stop himself.
He had been doing it since 2006.” Ms.
Cooper further explained that some of the images and videos involved girls aged 11 or under, highlighting the disturbing nature of the material.
She described how Wood would masturbate while viewing the illicit content and then delete the files and the associated file-sharing programs to conceal his activities.
“It was just a build-up.
The thoughts would come, and he would access the material, mainly during the night and always when he was alone,” she added.
Currently, Wood is on unconditional bail, meaning he is not detained but must adhere to certain conditions until his next court appearance.
He is scheduled to appear at Bristol Crown Court on December 6, where he will learn his sentencing and face the consequences of his actions.
