A man named Michael Ramnel Williams, aged 55, of Quex Road, Kilburn, has been convicted of raping a pensioner suffering from severe dementia.
The incident involved the victim, a 71-year-old woman, who went missing from her care home on August 11 of the previous year.
She was later found bruised, with clothing missing, and accused a man entered her room and tore her clothes.
The victim was taken to hospital and subsequently to a Haven clinic, where it was confirmed she had been raped.
DNA evidence recovered from the victim led to Williams being identified as a suspect.
Williams admitted to meeting the victim and taking her to a storage room in Angel Court, High Road, Willesden, where they found her clothes.
He was charged with rape and sexual activity with a person with a mental disorder, leading to his sentencing of 11 years imprisonment at Harrow Crown Court.
Additionally, his name has been registered on the sex offenders register for life.
The police highlighted the challenging investigation, especially because the victim's memory was affected.
Detective Constable Stuart Coutin stated, "This has been a particularly difficult case to investigate because the victim gets confused and has no memory of the incident." The case has been a distressing time for the victim and her family, with the authorities providing support through specially trained officers.
Williams' conviction ensures that he will serve his sentence and remain on the sex offenders register for life.
