MICHAEL PICK FROM OLD WHITTINGTON JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN CHESTERFIELD AND NEW WHITTINGTON

In a disturbing series of events that have shocked the local communities, Michael Pick, a resident of Holland Road, Old Whittington, has been sentenced to prison for his heinous crimes involving two underage girls in the Chesterfield area.

According to court records and police reports, Pick's criminal activities spanned over a year, with incidents occurring in different locations within the Chesterfield and New Whittington regions. The first incident took place in April 2021, when Pick approached a teenage girl who was out with her friends. He invited her to his house under the pretense of sharing a cigarette. The girl, trusting but cautious, waited outside while she lit the cigarette he had given her. It was during this moment that Pick committed a sexual assault, grabbing her by the waist and attempting to kiss her after she tried to push him away. Despite her resistance, he persisted, but she managed to break free and ran back to her friends, who then reported the assault to the police.

Pick was subsequently arrested and taken into custody. During police interviews, he denied the allegations and was granted bail, allowing him to remain free pending further investigation. The case remained unresolved until June 4, 2022, when Pick, then 21 years old, approached a different girl in a park located just off Albert Avenue in New Whittington. The girl was sitting with friends when Pick made inappropriate comments about her and her companion, expressing a desire to have sex with them. He also brandished a knife from his bag, which he showed to the girls, escalating the threat.

He then crawled over to the victim, pushed her to the ground, and sexually assaulted her. One of her friends intervened, pushing Pick away. As the group attempted to leave the scene, Pick approached the victim again and committed a second sexual assault. The group promptly reported the incident to passing police officers. Although Pick was seen in the vicinity shortly after the assault, he fled the scene when approached by officers. Later that day, he was arrested at his home address, charged with multiple offenses, and remanded into custody.

At Derby Crown Court, Pick faced justice for his actions. He was convicted on multiple counts, including two counts of sexual assault of a teenage girl, possession of a knife, and inciting an underage girl to engage in sexual activity. The court sentenced him to 50 months in prison, with an extended post-release license period of 24 months. Additionally, Pick received five-year restraining orders protecting both victims and was subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order to prevent any future offenses.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat sexual offenses and protect vulnerable members of the community. The sentences serve as a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who commit such crimes in the Chesterfield and Old Whittington areas.
