DONCASTER MAN JAILED FOR LEAVING PARTNER WITH BRAIN DAMAGE AND A PUNCTURED LUNG DURING HEINOUS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ATTACK
A man who attacked his partner, leaving her with a punctured lung and a bleed on the brain, has been sentenced to more than 16 years in prison.Michael Peterson, aged 38, from Exchange Street in Doncaster, initially attempted to conceal the severity of his violence by claiming that his partner's injuries were caused by a fall down the stairs.However, just before his trial was due to begin, Peterson admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He was subsequently sentenced to 16 and a half years at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday.
Det Con Abi McKie stated: "[He] has shown minimal remorse throughout this case and is responsible for subjecting his victim to one of the most heinous acts of domestic violence I have seen."The victim sustained multiple rib fractures and demonstrated "undeniable strength" during the investigation.
Det Con McKie added: "She has shown extreme determination in coming to terms with what happened, and I am proud that Peterson can now face this sentence and move on." Peterson, known as "Mickey," was also handed a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim for 20 years.
Prior to the attack in May 2024, he was under a suspended sentence for shoplifting.
Paramedics called the following day described her face as swollen and bruised, preventing her from opening her eyes.
Det Con McKie emphasized that no one deserves to suffer violence from someone close to them and that the case demonstrates how seriously domestic violence is taken by law enforcement and the courts.
