MICHAEL KELLARD SENTENCED IN DUNKESWELL FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING YOUNG BOYS

Michael Kellard, aged 64, has been handed a substantial prison sentence following his conviction on multiple serious charges related to child sexual offences. The court proceedings took place at Bournemouth Crown Court, where Kellard was found guilty of 15 counts involving two young male victims. These offences, which span approximately two decades from December 7, 2000, to May 2005, paint a disturbing picture of exploitation and abuse.

During the trial, the court heard that Kellard committed a range of heinous acts, including three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, three counts of rape, four counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and five counts of indecent assault on a male. Despite being acquitted of two counts of rape, the jury's verdict led to a significant sentence of 12 years in prison, with an additional six years on licence, ensuring he remains under supervision after his release.

In addition to his prison term, Kellard will be registered as a sex offender for life, a measure that underscores the severity of his crimes. He is also subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will last for 20 years, which restricts him from contacting anyone under the age of 18 without prior written consent. The presiding judge, Susan Evans KC, emphasized the manipulative nature of Kellard’s actions, noting that he groomed his victims, supplied them with alcohol, and sexually abused them in various locations. These included his van, hotels, his mother’s house, and his brother’s flat, revealing a pattern of calculated exploitation.

It was revealed that Kellard exploited his position within the go-karting community, where he was known as an enthusiast and trainer. He used this role to gain the trust of young boys aspiring to become racing drivers, taking advantage of their vulnerabilities due to their age and the expensive hobby of karting. The victims, both of whom met Kellard through their involvement in go-karting, continue to suffer from the lifelong effects of his abuse, highlighting the profound and lasting impact of his actions.
