MICHAEL GREEN FROM TENDRING EXPOSED FOR DECADES OF SEXUAL ABUSE IN CHELMSFORD AND WALTON

In a disturbing case that spans nearly two decades, Michael Green, a man with no fixed address from the Tendring area, has been convicted of a prolonged campaign of sexual abuse against young boys. The offences, which date back to 1984 and continued until recent years, were revealed during a court hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court, where Green faced multiple charges related to indecent assaults and other serious sexual offences.

Green, aged 47 at the time of sentencing, systematically groomed his young victims by establishing trust and friendship before subjecting them to a series of indecent acts. His methods involved befriending boys through his involvement in a local church or by employing them in various capacities, including at his bakery shops. Once trust was established, he would take the boys on fishing trips or offer them extra money, creating an environment where abuse could occur under the guise of friendship and mentorship.

The court heard that Green's offending pattern targeted boys aged between 11 and 15, with some victims being younger when the abuse began. The assaults took place in various locations, including Green’s flat in Walton, his bakery shops, and during fishing trips. The abuse was not isolated to a single incident but was part of a sustained pattern over many years. Prosecutor Alison Pople detailed how Green would indecently assault boys before they reached the age of consent, often while they were still minors.

One particularly disturbing revelation was that Green persuaded at least one young boy to perform an indecent act on camera, which was recorded on video, adding a layer of exploitation to his crimes. The court also heard that Green admitted to a total of 22 indecent assaults, along with one serious sexual offence, one count of indecency with a minor, and possession of cannabis.

Judge Gareth Hawkesworth sentenced Green to a total of seven years in prison. The judge also ordered Green to remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, emphasizing the severity of his crimes. In his remarks, Judge Hawkesworth highlighted the devastating impact of Green’s actions, noting that the victims, at such vulnerable ages, suffered lasting psychological harm. He stated, “These boys were aged between 11 and 15 when you befriended them and gained their trust when they were at a particularly vulnerable age. The impact statements show devastating and lasting damage to at least six of your victims. You have a deep-seated and dangerous obsession with young boys.”

Green’s offending history, which spanned nearly two decades, finally came to light when the abuse was uncovered last year, leading to his arrest and subsequent conviction. His case underscores the importance of vigilance within communities and the need for ongoing safeguarding measures to protect vulnerable children from predators like Green.
