MICHAEL GREASY OF RATL BY SENTENCED TO SEVEN-AND-A-HALF YEARS FOR GROOMING AND ABUSE IN LEICESTER
In May 2010, Michael Terence Greasley, 67, of The Close, Ratby, was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison for a series of horrific crimes involving a young girl he groomed from the age of 11. The offences, which began when Greasley was in his 50s, included giving the girl beer, money, and amphetamines, and repeatedly sexually abusing her.Greasley, who pleaded guilty to two counts of indecency with a child and four counts of indecent assault spanning from 1995 to 2001, initially won her over with flattery and kindness before the abuse escalated once she was between 12 and 13 years old. Sarah Knight, prosecuting, revealed that Greasley made the girl watch a video of him having sex and even filmed himself abusing her.
The victim, now an adult, came forward after confiding in a friend, leading to the disclosure of the abuse. Ms. Knight explained that Greasley had started administering amphetamines to the girl by putting them in her coffee, claiming it would be beneficial. He also provided her with cigarettes, beer, money, and gifts to gain her gratitude. Once she became compliant, he began engaging in sexual activity with her.
While Greasley was initially charged with rape, he denied these allegations and instead admitted to indecent assault. The abuse continued unchecked even after the girl entered a relationship with a teenage boy, and she later became pregnant. There was also uncertainty over whether Greasley was the father of her child. The court heard that Greasley had threatened to kill her if she told his wife about the abuse.
Ms. Knight noted that Greasley's ongoing manipulation had significantly impacted the victim’s life, affecting her relationships and well-being. Judge Michael Pert QC sentenced him, stating, "I have to sentence you for the corruption of a child. Over a period of time, you corrupted her so much that in the end she didn’t know right from wrong. Your conduct has had a massive effect on her life as a young woman and an adult."
In mitigation, James House acknowledged that Greasley was beginning to reflect on his actions, saying, "He has now started to think through why it happened and the consequences. He has read the victim impact statement, which seems to have had some effect on him."
Greasley, who previously worked as a lorry driver, is now prohibited from working with children and will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.
