MICHAEL GAFFNEY'S SHOCKING CRIME IN HANLEY: VOYEURISM AND CHILD INDECENCY AT MCDONALD'S

In October 2016, a disturbing case emerged involving Michael Gaffney, a man whose actions at a McDonald's restaurant in Hanley have left the community in shock. Gaffney, aged 56 and a resident of Collard Avenue, Cross Heath, was found to have engaged in highly invasive and illegal activities within the premises of the popular fast-food chain located on Parliament Row.

According to reports, Gaffney, who was employed at the Hanley branch of McDonald's, secretly installed cameras inside the female toilets. His intent was to secretly record female customers, a behavior that staff and patrons could never have anticipated. Over a period of time, he captured hundreds of videos, some featuring women and children as young as seven, who had gone to the restroom. The extent of his voyeurism was described as 'chilling' by authorities, highlighting the severity and depravity of his actions.

Staffordshire Police, who arrested Gaffney in 2014, condemned his conduct in the strongest terms. Detective Constable Kramer Caldwell stated, “Gaffney was a devious predator. Despite being under investigation, he continued to download indecent images of children from the internet, demonstrating a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.

Gaffney’s crimes did not go unpunished. During his court hearing at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to 12 charges of voyeurism and five counts of possessing indecent images of children. This led to his sentencing, which resulted in a 16-month prison term.
