TORQUAY MAN MICHAEL DICKINSON SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES
A man from Torquay has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after being convicted of raping a young girl and committing various other sexual offences.Michael Dickinson, aged 67 and residing on Abbey Road in Torquay, was also ordered to serve an additional year on an extended license at Exeter Crown Court.
Dickinson pleaded guilty to two charges of inciting a child to engage in sexual activities, and he was found guilty after a trial in December of two counts of raping a child under the age of 13.
In addition to his prison sentence, he is mandated to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and has been issued a 25-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The victim, who was very young at the time of the abuse, reported experiencing severe anxiety and PTSD as a result of Dickinson’s actions.
She explained that she initially believed the abuse was normal because of her age but now suffers flashbacks that make her feel as if Dickinson is present.
Despite the trauma, she expressed her determination to live her life as a "strong young woman." Detective Constable James Kelly, who led the investigation, praised the victim’s bravery and acknowledged the support provided by her family.
