RAPIST ANIGBUGU'S SENTENCE DOUBLED AFTER APPEAL
A rapist named Michael Chukwudi Anigbugu, aged 34, who assaulted a 37-year-old woman in her Edmonton home and threatened to kill her, has had his prison sentence nearly doubled.Originally sentenced to eight years in October of the previous year after he was found guilty of raping the woman during a burglary, his conviction was secured after a single strand of his hair was discovered on the victim's dressing gown, leading to his arrest in March 2010.
The Court of Appeal, comprising three judges, ruled that a home should be a safe haven and deemed the original sentence 'unduly lenient.' As a result, Anigbugu will now serve a 15-year jail term for his crimes.
The judgment was delivered by Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge, alongside Mr Justice Henriques and Mr Justice Davis, who emphasized that the initial punishment did not adequately reflect the severity of the crime.
