MICHAEL CARTER FROM CHATTERIS SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST YOUNG GIRL IN CAMBRIDGESHIRE
In a case that has shocked the community of Chatteris, a 58-year-old man named Michael Carter has been sentenced to a year in prison after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses involving a young girl.The incident, which spanned over five years, involved grooming, sexual assault, exposure, and sending inappropriate communications, highlighting a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
Michael Carter, whose address is listed as Lode Way in Chatteris, appeared before Peterborough Crown Court on Monday, February 5.
The court heard how Carter had engaged in a prolonged period of grooming and abusing a girl who was between the ages of 12 and 17 during this time.
The victim, who displayed remarkable bravery, disclosed to a social worker in August 2016 that Carter had been touching her inappropriately, making sexual comments and gestures, exposing himself, and sending her naked pictures over the course of five years.
The court proceedings revealed that Carter was found guilty of several charges, including sexual assault of a child under 13, two counts of sexual assault, exposure, and sending communications with the intent to cause distress or anxiety.
However, he was acquitted of two other charges, which included inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, an additional count of exposure, and another sexual assault.
Detective Sergeant Jim Donington commented on the case, stating, “Carter groomed a vulnerable girl solely for his own gratification.
The victim should be commended for her bravery to come forward and report the matter, which ultimately led to his conviction.” As part of his sentencing, Michael Carter received a 12-month prison term for the sexual assault of a child.
Additionally, he was sentenced to three months each for sexual assault and exposure, and six months for sending communications with the intent to cause distress or anxiety.
These sentences are to be served concurrently, meaning they will run at the same time.
Furthermore, Carter was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which aims to restrict his behavior and protect the public from future offenses.
He was also issued a restraining order that prohibits any contact with the victim for a period of ten years, ensuring her safety and peace of mind moving forward.
