2014: A former police community support officer and special constable has been sentenced to six years in prison for attempted race.

25-year-old Michael Keith Brock of Cornwallis Circle, Whitstable initially denied attacking his 20-year-old victim but later confessed to the offence.

Canterbury Crown Court heard how he had subjected her to ‘an extremely serious, violent and frightening’ sex attack.

The attack took place in High Street, Whitstable, late on 18 December 2011.

Detective Constable Keith Rochford said: ‘The attack was a harrowing ordeal for the victim and I’m pleased that justice has been done.

‘I would like to thank members of the public who intervened and came to the victim’s aid following the attack.

They are to be commended for their courage.

‘I would also like to pay tribute to the victim who has shown tremendous courage throughout the trial, and I hope with the defendant’s admission of guilt in court, and the sentence given today, she may be able to move on with her life.’
