WARWICK CROWN COURT: MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES — STRICT ORDERS IMPOSED UNTIL 2039

A man has been sentenced to a substantial prison term after being convicted of serious sexual offences involving a child.

Michael Berry was found guilty at Warwick Crown Court on 22 November 2024 of multiple offences under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

The charges included arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, alongside two counts of sexual assault of a child under the age of 13.

Following conviction, the court imposed a custodial sentence of six years and nine months’ imprisonment.

In addition to the prison term, the court granted a restraining order prohibiting Berry from contacting the named victim, and another injured party.

This restriction applies to all forms of contact, including indirect communication through third parties.

The order will remain in force until November 2034.

Further safeguarding measures were also put in place.

A Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) was imposed, lasting until November 2039.

This order introduces strict controls on Berry’s behaviour following release.

Under the terms of the SHPO, Berry is prohibited from having any unsupervised contact with female children under the age of 16.

Limited exceptions exist only where contact is incidental and unavoidable in everyday life, or where explicit safeguards are in place — including informed parental consent and written approval from children’s social services.

Such orders are designed to reduce the risk of further offending and allow authorities to closely monitor individuals convicted of serious sexual offences.

The case highlights the courts’ approach to offences involving children, where both custodial sentences and long-term preventative measures are used to protect the public and manage ongoing risk.
