MICHAEL BAXTER FROM BATHGATE JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN GLASGOW

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, Michael Baxter, a computer expert from Bathgate, was sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of possessing and distributing a large collection of indecent images of children. The incident came to light during a police raid conducted in March, where authorities discovered Baxter’s computer containing over 3,000 illicit images.

During the investigation, Baxter, aged 41 and a father of two, explained to police that his actions were driven by a desire for revenge. He claimed that a relative of his had been sexually abused, and his intent was to track down and confront the perpetrators. However, the evidence revealed a far more troubling pattern of behavior. Baxter admitted to trading these horrific images—some depicting children as young as six months being subjected to torture—with other paedophiles online. His aim, he stated, was to establish contact with these individuals with the intent to meet them in person and carry out assaults.

The court heard that Baxter, who held the position of IT supervisor at Polmont Young Offenders’ Institution in Falkirk, had been involved in these activities over a period of six years. Prosecutor Alex Prentice QC described Baxter’s actions as deeply disturbing, emphasizing the calculated nature of his online interactions and the serious risk posed to vulnerable children.

In his sentencing at the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Lord Brailsford did not hold back in condemning Baxter’s conduct. He described the offences as “distressing” and underscored the gravity of the crimes committed. As part of his punishment, Baxter was not only sentenced to two years behind bars but was also placed on the sex offenders’ register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and potential risk to the community.
