MICHAEL BATTY FROM THORVERTON JAILED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN NORTH YORKSHIRE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, Michael Batty, a 44-year-old shelf stacker from Thorverton, located in Devon, was convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses involving young girls. The crimes, which took place in North Yorkshire, only came to light several years after the abuse occurred, when one of the victims found the courage to disclose her ordeal to her mother.According to reports, Batty engaged in sickening acts of sexual abuse against two young girls, instructing them to keep quiet about what had happened. The abuse was carried out in secret, with Batty attempting to manipulate and silence his victims. It was only after one girl confided in her mother that authorities were alerted to the case.
The girl who came forward described her experience, saying, “He just made me do stuff that just wasn’t right.” Her brave disclosure prompted police to investigate further. The second girl, initially denying any wrongdoing, eventually revealed the abuse after further questioning. A statement from one of the victims expressed her pain and anger, stating, “I hope today you feel the guilt that you made me feel. You took away my innocence in a way no one ever should. You have no control over me anymore and now everyone will see who you really are.”
During the trial at Teesside Crown Court, the judge was informed that Batty had led a “simple and very blameless life” and that he was unable to explain why he committed these acts. Despite his claims of innocence regarding some charges, Batty admitted to three counts of sexual assault of a child and five counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. However, he denied attempting to rape a child and causing a child to watch a sex act, and the prosecution agreed to accept these denials and have those charges left on file.
Batty’s actions have left a lasting impact on his victims, and his sentencing reflects the severity of his crimes. The case highlights the importance of vigilance and the bravery of victims who come forward to seek justice, even years after the abuse has occurred.
