MENTESNOT CHERU SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN TOTTENHAM

Mentesnot Cheru, a man with a significant criminal record, has been handed down a prison sentence of two years and eight months, accompanied by an extended three-year licence period, following his involvement in two violent sexual assaults in Tottenham, north London.

Cheru, aged 29, was identified and apprehended thanks to the efforts of a vigilant witness, Joshua Donka, who was only 20 years old at the time. Donka played a crucial role in the investigation by capturing footage of Cheru immediately after the first assault, using his mobile phone while passing through the area. This footage proved instrumental in linking Cheru to the crime.

The police managed to locate Cheru again approximately a month later, after the same witness recognized him and promptly contacted law enforcement authorities. Cheru’s criminal history is extensive, including a notable seven-year imprisonment sentence handed down in 2010 for an attack on a police officer, which underscores his long-standing pattern of violent behavior.

During the recent court proceedings at Wood Green Crown Court, Judge Gregory Perrins did not hold back in describing Cheru’s dangerous nature. He characterized Cheru as 'plainly and simply a dangerous man,' emphasizing the high likelihood of re-offending, particularly in sexual crimes. The judge’s remarks underscored the severity of Cheru’s actions and the threat he continues to pose to the community.

Cheru entered a guilty plea to two counts of sexual assault and possession of cannabis. The court was informed that the assaults took place on April 4, targeting two women aged 20 and 27 in separate incidents involving random acts of violence. In the first attack, Cheru approached a woman who was on her way to work, subjected her to unwanted touching, and then proceeded to punch her multiple times. The assault left her traumatized and necessitated hospital treatment. Minutes later, Cheru attacked another woman in a nearby street, slapping and punching her as well. These assaults were captured on camera, and subsequent investigations linked Cheru to the crimes through both footage and witness identification.

It was also revealed that Cheru has a history of violent offenses, including previous attacks on prison guards and incidents of exposing himself after his release from incarceration. His criminal record paints a picture of a man with a persistent pattern of violent and misogynistic behavior.

As part of his sentencing, Cheru was ordered to serve at least two-thirds of his prison term before being eligible for parole. Furthermore, he was mandated to register as a sex offender for life, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses. The judge’s comments about Cheru’s misogynistic attitude and dangerousness serve as a stark reminder of the serious consequences of his actions and the importance of community safety.
