MATTY MURRAY FROM WIRRAL CONVICTED FOR CRUELTY TO DOG IN BROMBOROUGH

In a disturbing incident that took place on Boxing Day 2023 in Bromborough, a man identified as Matty Murray, born on March 6, 1999, and residing in Bentinck Place, Birkenhead, was caught on CCTV engaging in a brutal act of animal cruelty involving a small dog named Bella. The footage vividly captures Murray approaching the dog with evident aggression, kicking her multiple times, and shouting commands in a threatening manner.

According to the footage, Murray runs towards a fence and delivers a forceful kick to Bella with his left leg, followed by another kick with his other leg. The dog yelps in pain, clearly distressed by the assault. During the attack, Murray is heard shouting aggressively, “get back in,” before continuing to kick and swear at the frightened animal. The distressing scene shows Bella retreating towards her home, yelping again once she reaches safety inside the property.

The incident occurred at Ashfield Crescent, Bromborough, prompting immediate concern from local residents and the RSPCA, who were alerted to the situation. Inspector Anthony Joynes, who responded to the case, provided a detailed account of his investigation. In a written statement to the court, he explained that upon visiting the location and speaking with residents, he reviewed CCTV footage that depicted a young male with long dark hair, dressed in a black jacket, blue jeans, and black trainers. The footage shows the individual initially arguing angrily with another person before shouting that a dog had escaped from the property. The dog, visibly scared, is seen running away from the male along a fence line, with Murray chasing after her.

As the footage continues, Murray is seen violently kicking Bella on at least two occasions, with her yelping in response. Further distressing sounds are heard as the dog continues to cry out after Murray re-enters the house. The severity of the attack prompted immediate veterinary intervention, during which Bella was given pain relief for ongoing hip and spinal issues identified through radiographs. She was subsequently taken to a private boarding facility to receive care on behalf of the RSPCA while investigations continued.

Matty Murray, who has a history with Merseyside Police and links to Tranmere, Prenton, Wallasey, and Woodchurch, pleaded guilty to the charge of animal cruelty. During the court proceedings, he admitted to attacking Bella, claiming that he was feeling stressed at the time. His past criminal record and known associations with the Merseyside area were noted during sentencing.

Following the case, Inspector Joynes commented on Bella’s condition and the importance of animal welfare. He stated, “Bella had run out of the house and into the street, which of course can be stressful and frustrating. But the violence, aggression, and intimidating behaviour that followed was unacceptable, and this can be seen by Bella’s fearful response and her cries of pain. She is now in our care and is doing well. We are hopeful she will find a new, loving home very soon.”

As part of his sentencing, Murray received an 18-month community order, which includes 240 hours of unpaid work and 30 days of ‘rehabilitation’. Additionally, he faces a victim surcharge and a ten-year ban from owning animals, although he has the right to appeal after five years.
