RAPIST JAILED FOR FILMING AND ATTACKING YOUNG GIRL AND WOMAN
A VILE sex attacker who filmed himself raping a young girl has been jailed for 12 years.Matthew James, aged 47 and from Fort William, allegedly used hidden cameras to secretly record himself during the horrific grooming and abuse in Gourock and other locations over a span of seven years.The court heard that James rigged up covert cameras to spy on the young girl while she was vulnerable, and filmed her as she dressed and bathed.
He also claimed the girl never said 'no' during his assaults.Additionally, a woman suffered repeated incidents of physical and sexual violence inflicted by James.
He was convicted on Thursday at the High Court in Glasgow after pleading guilty to 12 charges, including rape of both victims.
The crimes took place between 2015 and 2022, involving acts in multiple locations.During sentencing, Judge David Young KC described James as a "dangerous individual" with ongoing risk to others.
The judge highlighted the devastating impact on the victims, noting the girl’s feelings of helplessness and her fractured ability to form relationships, while the woman’s life has also been torn apart.
James was sentenced to 12 years in prison, and he will be monitored for a further four years upon release.
His name has been added to the sex offenders register, and he is banned from approaching or contacting his victims indefinitely.
