BRADFORD MAN JAILED FOR BREACHING RESTRAINING ORDER AND HARASSMENT
A man who sent hostile, aggressive, and confrontational messages has been sentenced to over two years in prison.Bradford Crown Court was told that 39-year-old Matthew Axon had been legally prohibited from making contact with his former partner since August.
However, within just two months of the restraining order being issued, he was found to be communicating with her indirectly.
This breach resulted in the reinforcement of a previously imposed 15-month suspended sentence for stalking.
Axon, who lives on Dawson Terrace in Bradford, is now beginning a 28-month jail term.
Judge Caroline Sellars noted, “You were observed in August 2024 to have been mortified by your conduct and to have learned a significant lesson while in custody.
I am told again that your time in prison has been a sobering experience, but the court remains concerned that you may have a limited memory of this lesson.” It was explained during mitigation that Axon’s actions were impulsive rather than premeditated, and he showed remorse for the distress caused.
He admitted guilt to breaching the restraining order, sending malicious messages, and harassment without violence.
The court sentenced him to 15 months in prison, plus an additional 13 months for breaching the suspended sentence, to be served consecutively, resulting in a total of 28 months.
The current 10-year restraining order was revoked and replaced with a new one until further notice.
