MATTHEW ALDURS FROM WEST HULL CONFESSES TO CHILD SEX CRIMES AFTER WALKING INTO POLICE STATION

In a startling turn of events, Matthew Aldurs, a known sex offender from West Hull, took the unusual step of walking into a police station on September 13, 2017, and voluntarily confessed to a series of disturbing child sex offences. The Hull Crown Court heard that Aldurs, aged 30 at the time, was driven by overwhelming feelings of guilt and shame, which compelled him to disclose his crimes directly to law enforcement authorities.

His confession revealed a troubling history of abuse, including an attempted rape of an 11-year-old girl. The court was informed that the victims, who ranged in age and circumstances, were deeply affected by his actions. One victim, a girl who was just ten years old at the time, was visibly upset when she learned of the confession but could not recall the specific incident. Another male victim chose not to cooperate with police, while the girl who was targeted in the attempted rape described feeling a mixture of shame and relief upon hearing that Aldurs had admitted his guilt.

Prosecutor Richard Thompson outlined that Aldurs’s criminal record extended well before these recent revelations. In 2006, after committing the offences involving the teenage girl, Aldurs had already admitted to three rapes and an assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The assault included an attempt to strangle the victim and resulted in a chipped tooth. For these offences, he was sentenced to five years in a young offenders institution.

His criminal history, which began in 2003, is extensive and includes charges related to dishonesty, vehicle crimes, and multiple breaches of court orders, notably repeated violations of his sex offender notification requirements. Notably, Aldurs had been incarcerated as recently as October of the previous year for a different matter and had been removed from a sex offender treatment programme due to inappropriate behaviour.

During the court proceedings, Aldurs, who resides on Anlaby Road in West Hull, pleaded guilty to attempted rape, three sexual offences, and indecent assault. His defence lawyer, Dale Brook, described Aldurs’s lifestyle as transient and unsteady, noting that he had not been employed and had lived a vagrant existence. Mr. Brook emphasized the unusual circumstances surrounding the case, suggesting that Aldurs’s actions were influenced by his mental health issues.

Judge Mark Bury reviewed a pre-sentence report that painted a bleak picture of Aldurs’s mental state. The report detailed that he suffers from anxiety and depression, is highly emotional, and exhibits erratic behaviour and thought patterns. The judge described the report as “depressing reading.”

In sentencing, Judge Bury imposed a prison term of three years and four months, emphasizing that the case would not have come to court had it not been for Aldurs’s own admissions. The judge acknowledged that Aldurs had already been sentenced for another sexual offence since these crimes, which contributed to the severity of his current sentence. He also warned Aldurs that any future sexual offences would result in him being classified as a dangerous offender.

Additionally, the court recalled an earlier incident from March 2016, when Aldurs, then 27, residing at William Booth House on Hessle Road, was given a 26-week suspended prison sentence for breaching his sex offender notification requirements. He failed to notify police about his residence on 20 occasions, spent over 12 hours with a person under 18 on multiple occasions, and had contact with a child under 18 in a household for extended periods. As part of his sentence, he was ordered to attend a 36-day sex offender programme in Northumbria and undertake up to 20 days of rehabilitation, paying costs and surcharges totaling £165.

Throughout the proceedings, the court highlighted the seriousness of Aldurs’s actions and the importance of monitoring his behaviour, especially given his history of non-compliance and the potential risk he poses to the community in West Hull and beyond.
