MET POLICE DETECTIVE DISMISSED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON COLLEAGUE
A detective from the Metropolitan Police has been dismissed for sexually assaulting a colleague while on duty.Det Sgt Marvin Turner sexually touched a female probationary constable during a night shift between June 28 and June 29, 2021, as determined by a misconduct panel.
The allegation states that Mr Turner also made sexual comments to the officer, who was described as 'vulnerable'.
The hearing revealed that Mr Turner, who was assigned to the East Area Command Unit, drove PC X to a McDonald's in his personal car at around 01:30 without the dashcam recording and made inappropriate sexual remarks before sexually touching her.
The report highlights that PC X was suffering from depression, was on antidepressants, had recently ended a relationship, and was experiencing work-related issues at the time.
Despite knowing her mental health vulnerabilities, Mr Turner continued his misconduct.
After returning from the outing, he dismissed all colleagues except for PC X and later asked her, 'did you enjoy your sexual harassment today?' The misconduct panel found his conduct to be of the most serious nature, amounting to gross misconduct and abuse of power, especially considering his supervisory role and the vulnerability of the victim.
The police panel unanimously decided to dismiss Mr Turner without notice.
Furthermore, a criminal investigation was undertaken but subsequently concluded with no further action.
The panel characterized his behavior as harassing, discriminatory, and of a serious misconduct, emphasizing that his actions caused harm and breach trust within the police force.
