MARTYN QUINN FROM FORDINGBRIDGE SENTENCED AFTER SHOCKING ASSAULT IN NEW MILTON LEISURE CENTRE

In March 2022, a disturbing incident involving Martyn Quinn, a man from Fordingbridge, has come to light, revealing a serious threat to public safety. Quinn, aged 65, was convicted of sexually assaulting a young boy at a leisure centre in New Milton, an event that has left the local community shaken and authorities determined to prevent any future harm.

According to court reports, the assault took place in January at the public leisure centre located on Gore Road in New Milton. Two boys, aged 11 and 12, were in the showers when Quinn entered the area. Witnesses and staff observed him behaving inappropriately, as he entered the showers completely naked and began rubbing shower gel on one of the boys. The situation escalated when Quinn pulled down the trunks of the other child and touched him in a sexual manner, despite the boy's efforts to protect himself. The incident was quickly noticed by staff members, who promptly identified Quinn to the police. His arrest followed shortly thereafter, bringing an end to his immediate actions.

The mother of one of the boys, who cannot be named due to legal restrictions, expressed her devastation in court. She described how her family’s life had been irreparably damaged by the incident. She stated that her son, once a happy child, had become withdrawn, angry, and deeply affected by the trauma. Her words reflected the profound impact of Quinn’s actions, emphasizing her hope that no other family would have to endure similar suffering. She passionately condemned Quinn, describing him as a selfish individual with sexual thoughts towards children, and expressed her wish that justice be served.

Further details revealed that Quinn had a troubling criminal history. In 2017, he was jailed after admitting to a video call with a boy in Austria, during which he incited the child to perform sexual acts. Authorities also found indecent images on Quinn’s computer, underscoring a pattern of concerning behavior. Quinn, who resides in Beechwood, Fordingbridge, appeared in court to face charges related to the New Milton incident, admitting to one count of sexually assaulting a child.

Judge Christopher Parker addressed Quinn directly, stating, “You certainly put yourself in a position likely to come across, or come upon, naked male children, and that of course is what happened.” Recognizing the severity of the case, the judge sentenced Quinn to a prison term of up to two years and three months, with a minimum of 18 months before he can be considered for parole. Upon release, Quinn will need to demonstrate his suitability for reintegration into society or face an additional nine months behind bars. Additionally, he will be subject to a licence period lasting two years and three months.

As part of the court’s measures to prevent further incidents, Quinn was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. This order explicitly prohibits him from entering swimming baths unless they are designated for adults only. The court’s decision reflects a comprehensive approach to safeguarding the community from potential future harm.

Following the hearing, the mother of one of the victims expressed her gratitude towards the police for their swift action and praised Freedom Leisure, the operator of the leisure centre, for their supportive stance during this difficult time. Her comments underscored the importance of community and institutional cooperation in addressing such serious crimes. She concluded her remarks with a stark statement, saying, “I think he should be castrated,” highlighting the depth of her anger and desire for justice in this tragic case.
