COWARDLY MAN WITH A VIOLENT HISTORY AGAINST WOMEN JAILED AFTER VICIOUS ATTACK
A man from Braunstone, Leicester, received a prison sentence following a violent assault on a woman after what was initially a rental agreement for a flat.The woman, who was 25 at the time, was introduced to Martin Spencer, aged 56, through a mutual friend, after being told he had a flat available.
Spencer claimed he was 40.
The understanding was that their interaction was solely for the purpose of renting the property.
After paying the required fees and obtaining the keys, she moved into the one-bedroom flat.
Spencer, along with others, visited regularly to help with decorating and furniture assembly.
However, once the work was finished, he continued to stay at the property.
When she expressed a desire for privacy to settle into her new home, Spencer asserted that he would also be living there, despite no prior agreement.
This led to an argument, during which she clearly stated she did not want him to cohabitate with her.
Shortly after, she was assaulted from behind and rendered unconscious.
She suffered multiple severe injuries, including six broken ribs, a shattered eye socket, a broken jaw, a broken nose, and substantial ear trauma.
During the assault, Spencer pulled out a knife and attempted to cut her throat.
An accomplice intervened, causing the weapon to cut her ear instead.
She managed to escape the scene.
Following the attack, Spencer was taken into custody.
It was later revealed that he had a history of violence, including injuring his ex-mother-in-law and assaulting two former partners.
At Leicester Crown Court on October 18, 2024, he faced charges including assault causing actual bodily harm, additional assault causing injury, controlling or coercive behaviour, intentional strangulation, and threatening someone with a bladed object.
He was found guilty and received a prison sentence.
Since his release, reports indicate he has continued to threaten and contact the victim, including phone calls in which he said he would “finish the job.” Within two months of being released, he was also bailed on charges of harassment involving three other women.
