MARTIN REES FROM NEWCASTLE-UNDER-LYME SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES IN STAFFORDSHIRE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Martin Rees, a 37-year-old driving instructor from Newcastle-under-Lyme, has been sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison for heinous sexual offenses, including the rape of a minor and multiple sexual assaults on his clients. The court proceedings revealed a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned over three years, involving vulnerable young women and teenagers.

Rees’s criminal activities came to light in March of the previous year when authorities arrested him at his residence in Newcastle-under-Lyme following a serious complaint from a 14-year-old girl who reported that she had been raped by him. The investigation was swiftly launched by Staffordshire Police’s Child Protection and Exploitation Team (CEPT), who conducted a thorough search of Rees’s property and electronic devices.

During the search, detectives seized a mobile phone belonging to Rees, which contained a disturbing collection of evidence. They discovered 29 clandestinely recorded video clips that showed Rees secretly filming young women during their driving lessons. These videos captured private parts of the women, revealing a disturbing pattern of voyeurism and exploitation. One particularly alarming video depicted a teenage girl who was unconscious at the time, while Rees was engaged in sexually assaulting her, highlighting the severity of his misconduct.

Rees’s offenses involved eight victims, whose ages ranged from 14 to 25 years old at the time of the incidents. The crimes spanned from February 2015 to March 2018, illustrating a prolonged period of predatory behavior. The court heard that Rees’s actions were driven by a disturbing and unhealthy interest in young children and extreme pornography, which contributed to his criminal conduct.

Today, at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, Judge David Fletcher delivered the sentence, condemning Rees’s actions and emphasizing the gravity of his offenses.
