MARTIN MCCORMICK SENTENCED FOR MONTHS OF DOMESTIC ABUSE IN ALLOA

A man has been formally sentenced after subjecting his former partner to a prolonged period of domestic abuse in the town of Alloa.

The proceedings took place at Alloa Sheriff Court, where Martin McCormick, a 44-year-old resident of Torogay Street in Glasgow, appeared to face the charges against him.

McCormick pleaded guilty to engaging in a pattern of abusive behavior towards his ex-partner from July 1 of the previous year through to February 5 of the current year.

The court heard that during this period, he repeatedly visited her residence on Inglewood Road in Alloa uninvited, displaying aggressive and threatening conduct.

His actions included shouting, swearing, and acts of hostility that caused distress to his former partner.

Specifically, on one occasion between October 1 and October 31, McCormick arrived at her home without invitation.

During this visit, he shouted at her, used offensive language, acted aggressively, and even spat on her windows, further escalating the situation.

His aggressive behavior did not cease there; on December 16, he returned uninvited once again, shouting and swearing, and making derogatory remarks about her.

He also repeatedly knocked on her door, attempting to intimidate her.

The situation worsened on February 5, when McCormick once again appeared at her residence uninvited.

He entered her property, shouted at her, and claimed to be recording her on his phone with the intention of posting the footage on social media.

This act of intrusion and intimidation was a clear violation of her privacy and safety.

The court was informed that the relationship between McCormick and his victim had lasted approximately eight years, highlighting the long-term nature of the abuse and the emotional toll it likely took on the woman.

In sentencing, Sheriff Neil Bowie ordered McCormick to complete a community payback order, which includes two years of supervision and participation in the Caledonian Programme, a scheme aimed at addressing domestic abuse offenders.

Additionally, McCormick was issued a two-year non-harassment order, prohibiting him from contacting or approaching his former partner.

Authorities and support organizations continue to urge women experiencing domestic abuse in the Alloa area to seek help.

Police are available for assistance, and charities such as Clackmannanshire Women’s Aid offer vital support services.
