SHROPSHIRE MAN BANNED FOR BEATING PREGNANT DOG WITH STICK
A man identified as Martin Lightfoot, aged 36, with an address given as a boat on the Llangollen Canal in Whitchurch, Shropshire, has pleaded guilty to physically assaulting his pregnant dog, Poppy, by hitting her with a stick.
The incident occurred on January 24 of the previous year and was reported to the police after a member of the public witnessed the abuse.
Magistrates in Market Drayton issued a sentence banning Lightfoot from keeping any animals for a period of 10 years, coupled with a conditional discharge for three years.
The RSPCA prosecuted the case, and since the incident, both Poppy and another dog, Maisie, have been under the care of the RSPCA.
Poppy subsequently gave birth to 13 puppies, with three of them passing away; the surviving puppies have all been rehomed.
RSPCA inspector Nayman Dunderdale expressed his satisfaction with the case outcome, stating, "Ten years is a long time for a ban, and we're very happy about that.
What happened to this animal was disgraceful.
Anyone who goes around beating a dog deserves to be banned from keeping them."
