MARTIN FORBES FROM FRASERBURGH SENTENCED FOR INTERNET PREDATION ON SCHOOLGIRLS
In a recent case heard at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, Martin Forbes, a 25-year-old resident of Fraserburgh, was found guilty of engaging in disturbing online predatory behavior targeting young schoolgirls. The court proceedings revealed that Forbes had assumed the identity of a 13-year-old boy in digital communications, luring multiple victims into conversations that crossed appropriate boundaries.During the sentencing, Forbes was sentenced to serve 18 months in prison for his actions. Additionally, upon his release, he will be subject to a 12-month extended sentence, a measure designed to monitor and prevent further offending. The court also mandated that Forbes be registered on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the potential risk he poses to the community.
At the time of the hearing, Forbes was visibly distressed, sitting with his head bowed and crying in the dock. His remorse was evident, as he had previously admitted to a total of 12 charges involving 10 different schoolgirls. These offenses spanned from November 2009 to September 2011, during which he exploited the anonymity of the internet to target vulnerable minors.
The court's decision underscores the seriousness with which such offenses are regarded, especially when they involve the exploitation of minors through digital means. The case has drawn significant attention in Fraserburgh and the surrounding areas, highlighting the ongoing concerns about online safety and the importance of vigilance in protecting young people from predators.
