MARTIN DOYLE'S HORRIFIC ANIMAL ABUSE IN ABERGELE REVEALED

Disturbing CCTV footage has surfaced, exposing the cruel treatment inflicted upon Morley, a black and white bull terrier, by his owner, Martin Doyle. Doyle, born on February 1, 1984, and previously residing on Blackfriars Road in Salford, had moved to Ger Y Mor, Station Road, Pensarn, Abergele, LL22 7SX, by 2020. The footage vividly captures Doyle tormenting Morley, who was visibly terrified, with his mouth tightly secured using a fabric belt. The video shows the dog sitting obediently, with his jaw forcibly held shut, while Doyle taunts him with food bowls and later drenches him with dirty water.

In one particularly distressing scene, Doyle emerges from his flat onto the balcony, carrying a mop and bucket. Without hesitation, he throws the contaminated water directly onto Morley's head, further emphasizing the cruelty of his actions. The footage also includes a still image of Morley gazing forlornly over the balcony, his expression one of despair and helplessness. This evidence played a crucial role in Doyle’s conviction.

Animal welfare officers, alerted to the situation, visited Doyle’s residence multiple times. During a visit in June 2015, they observed Morley in a state of obvious hunger, as he eagerly devoured the food provided. The officers noted that the CCTV footage showed the dog tied to a balcony with his mouth taped shut, a condition that severely compromised his well-being. The dog was deprived of clean drinking water, lacked a comfortable resting area, and was kept in an environment unsafe from potential injury. Veterinarians concluded that Morley could not drink the water due to the material constricting his mouth, and the hot weather at the time would have made it impossible for him to regulate his body temperature through panting.

Following the investigation, Morley was taken into a rehoming centre to recover from his ordeal. When questioned by animal welfare caseworkers, Doyle dismissively referred to Morley as ‘a f****d up dog’ and justified his actions by claiming he had placed the belt around the dog’s mouth because Morley had urinated and defecated inside the flat. An RSPCA spokeswoman condemned Doyle’s treatment, describing it as torment and punishment inflicted upon an innocent animal.

In court, Doyle was found guilty of three counts of failing to meet the needs of an animal. The judge sentenced him to a four-month community order, including a curfew, and ordered him to pay costs of £600 along with a victim surcharge of £60. Additionally, Doyle was banned from keeping animals for five years, a ban that expired in May 2021. Speaking after the case, an RSPCA representative emphasized the severity of Doyle’s actions, stating, “It is clear that this dog has been subjected to regular periods of torment from its owner as the dog sits as still as possible to avoid being punished. The psychological impact this has had on the dog is evident from the footage. It is deeply disturbing to see someone treat an animal in this manner, and this behaviour is totally unacceptable.”
