MARK TURNER TORQUAY CHILD SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED IN EXETER COURT

In a serious case that has shocked the community of Torquay, Mark Turner, a 31-year-old man with a troubling history, was sentenced to prison after authorities uncovered disturbing evidence of his involvement in child exploitation.

The incident unfolded when police executed a search at his residence on South Street, Torquay, on July 10 of the previous year.

During the search, officers discovered a hard drive hidden beneath his bed, which was linked to a discarded desktop computer.

Upon analysis, the hard drive was found to contain a disturbing collection of indecent images of children, including 30 images classified as Category A, the most severe, alongside six Category B and 31 Category C images.

These classifications are used by authorities to denote the severity of the content, with Category A representing the most extreme material.

Mark Turner was charged and pleaded guilty to four counts of making indecent images of children.

His conviction was handed down by Exeter Crown Court, where he received a custodial sentence of 42 weeks in prison.

Additionally, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will be in effect for ten years, restricting him from having unsupervised contact with boys.

The judge, Recorder Martin Meeke QC, emphasized the gravity of the case, especially considering Turner's prior conviction in 2007 for engaging in sexual activity with a child under 13.

The court highlighted that the discovery of the images was a significant aggravating factor, given his previous conviction and the nature of the material found.

During the proceedings, the court was informed that Turner had previously undergone a course aimed at preventing reoffending, but it was deemed unsuitable for him to undertake again.

The defense, represented by Barry White, acknowledged that Turner had not experienced a particularly happy childhood, which may have contributed to his actions.

Despite this, the court made it clear that the severity of the offense warranted strict measures to protect the public.

In a related incident from June 2007, Turner was involved in a separate disturbing case involving a young boy in Worcester.

The victim, only nine years old, was so distressed after Turner exposed himself to him that he sent a distress message to his mother from his bedroom.

The boy recounted that 18 months earlier, Turner had lured him into a house on Tallow Hill, Worcester, and showed him his private parts.

Turner, then aged 22, pleaded guilty to inciting a boy to engage in sexual activity.

The court heard that Turner had called the boy over in a street and invited him into a house to watch DVDs.

During the visit, Turner exposed himself in a bedroom and asked the boy to do the same, which he refused.

Turner was subsequently sentenced to a three-year community order, with conditions including a ban from working with children or making contact with them unsupervised.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years.

Judge Richard Rundell, presiding over the case, condemned Turner's actions, describing them as wicked and noting the profound impact on the young victim, who had bottled up his fear for 18 months.

The judge acknowledged that Turner was experiencing confusion about his sexuality but was receiving therapy to address his issues.

He also pointed out the overcrowded state of prisons, which influenced the sentencing decision, emphasizing the importance of treatment and supervision in preventing future offenses.

The cases serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by individuals like Mark Turner and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and judicial measures to protect vulnerable children in communities like Torquay and Worcester.
