MARK O’ROURKE BREACHES COURT ORDER IN COATBRIDGE - SENTENCE DELAYED AGAIN
In August 2015, a court hearing was scheduled to address the ongoing breach of a court-imposed order by Mark O’Rourke, a resident of Summerlee, Coatbridge. The case centered around O’Rourke’s failure to adhere to a strict community payback order that had been previously issued by the court.O’Rourke, who is 20 years old, was subject to a sexual offences prevention order which mandated that he remain confined within his residence on Melrose Place for a period of 12 hours each day. This order was part of the conditions set to monitor and restrict his movements following his earlier convictions.
The breach occurred on the night of June 18 of the previous year, when O’Rourke left his home despite the restrictions. Police officers, patrolling the area, located him on Crichton Street in Coatbridge at approximately 2 a.m. The violation of the court order was confirmed when he was found outside his designated hours of confinement.
O’Rourke had previously pleaded guilty on June 6 to the breach and was sentenced to a community payback order, which included performing unpaid work at Airdrie Sheriff Court. However, his compliance with the order was short-lived, as he was found to have violated the terms again.
He appeared in court last Wednesday, where he admitted to breaching the community payback order. The court was informed that O’Rourke had been unable to complete his required hours of unpaid work because he was remanded in custody due to another unrelated offence. This development complicated his case further.
Sheriff Nikola Stewart decided to postpone the sentencing hearing until November 25, pending the outcome of other legal matters involving O’Rourke. In the meantime, she suspended his community payback order, effectively halting its enforcement until the resolution of his ongoing legal issues. The case highlights ongoing concerns about compliance with court orders and the challenges faced in managing offenders within the community in Coatbridge.
