MARK LEWIS FROM CARRICKFERGUS JAILED FOR ABUSING TEENAGER IN BELFAST
In June 2018, a disturbing case unfolded involving Mark Lewis, a man originally from Merthyr Tydfil but residing in Carrickfergus, who was convicted of heinous sexual offenses against a vulnerable teenage girl.Lewis appeared before Belfast's Laganside Court House, where he admitted to multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of a minor.
Lewis, aged 36, faced serious allegations including sexual assault on a child by penetration and engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
The court was informed that over a period of several months, Lewis systematically groomed the girl, who was described as suffering from learning difficulties and possessing a mental age estimated to be around 13.
This grooming process involved persistent communication, with Lewis sending approximately a thousand messages to the girl in an attempt to build her trust and manipulate her.
According to court reports, Lewis exploited the girl’s vulnerabilities once he managed to isolate her.
The abuse escalated to sexual assault, culminating in acts of digital penetration.
These offenses took place in October 2017, marking a period of significant trauma for the victim.

In sentencing, the judge imposed a prison term of 21 months on Lewis.
