STEPHEN PENNEY SHAMES CARRICKFERGUS WITH SHOCKING OFFENSES IN SHETLAND

Stephen Penney, aged 45, has pleaded guilty to two serious charges of breaching the peace that took place on 21 June 2013. The incidents occurred in Shetland, specifically on Lerwick’s Commercial Road, and have now brought him into the criminal justice spotlight.

According to court records, Penney approached a woman as she was entering Frank Williamson’s hardware store. In a disturbing act, he flashed an image of a naked 12-year-old girl at her, asking whether she would be interested in such material. This aggressive and inappropriate behavior left the victim visibly shocked, prompting her to immediately walk away and contact the police to report the incident.

Less than ten minutes later, on the same street, Penney engaged with a 15-year-old girl. He propositioned her to pose for an indecent photograph in exchange for a sum of £10. The young victim was understandably distressed by the encounter, and she also promptly contacted law enforcement authorities.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Penney left Shetland the very next day after the incidents. He was unaware that he was being formally charged until a letter was delivered to his residence in Carrickfergus, County Antrim. The case has highlighted serious concerns about his conduct and the impact on the victims involved, raising questions about his motives and the extent of his actions in the community.
