DARLINGTON MAN JAILED AGAIN AFTER BRUTAL ASSAULT ON PARTNER
A man named Mark Learoyd, aged 47, has been sent back to prison after reportedly assaulting his partner in his Darlington home just two weeks after being released from custody.
According to court reports, Learoyd punched his partner up to 30 times after she requested some space for an hour.
The court heard how he also threatened another woman with a knife, grabbing it from her kitchen drawer, and caused injuries to her hands as she tried to take the knife from him.
The victim disclosed to police that Learoyd beat her severely during the incident, stating he 'beat the s*** out of her' following her request for a temporary break.
Learoyd, of Brook Terrace, pleaded guilty to assault by beating and threatening a person with a knife on May 12 this year.
He has previous convictions for domestic violence and has been subject to two domestic violence protection orders.
The judge noted his history of domestic abuse as an aggravating factor.
His solicitor mentioned his longstanding alcohol issues, which contributed to his offending behavior, and acknowledged his guilty plea at the lower court.
Learoyd was sentenced to a total of 18 months in prison for both offences.
