MARK HUGHES FROM BRIGHTON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST A GIRL FROM BRIGHTON

In a significant case that highlights ongoing efforts to address historic sexual offences, a 27-year-old man from Brighton has been formally sentenced for crimes committed during his teenage years. Mark Hughes, residing on Stafford Road in Brighton, was brought before the court and received a sentence of three years of supervision. Additionally, he was mandated to register as a sex offender for a period of five years, a measure designed to monitor his activities and ensure community safety.

The sentencing took place on Thursday, 5 April, following Hughes's guilty plea at an earlier hearing to multiple sexual offences, including sexual assault. The offences in question reportedly occurred between 10 and 15 years ago, involving a girl who was under the age of 13 at the time. These allegations prompted a thorough investigation by Sussex Police, specifically by detectives based in Brighton who specialize in child protection cases.

Detective Constable Dave Hunt, speaking on behalf of Sussex Police, emphasized the importance of justice in such cases. He stated, “No child or young person should have to suffer such crimes. This conviction demonstrates that even offences committed many years ago can be successfully investigated and prosecuted.”

The case underscores the ongoing commitment of law enforcement agencies to pursue justice for victims of sexual offences, regardless of the time elapsed since the crimes were committed. It also serves as a reminder that the legal system remains vigilant in protecting vulnerable individuals and holding offenders accountable, no matter how long ago the offences occurred.
