DRIFFIELD MAN GETS SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR ASSAULT AND HARASSMENT
A woman from Driffield was left terrified following an incident involving Mark Fleming, 55, who displayed aggressive and harassing behavior towards her.
The confrontation in her kitchen escalated when Fleming pushed her, resulting in injuries and a significant head wound.
She recounted that there was "lots of blood" after the injury, which was caused by Fleming striking her and pushing her, an act she described as 'callous'.
She was taken to hospital, where she received seven stitches on her forehead.
Subsequently, Fleming sent her threatening emails, including messages that contained threats of death, which caused her considerable anxiety and made her afraid to leave her home, worried about meeting him again.
He continued to call her and accused her of hiding something.
This harassment persisted even after a non-molestation order was imposed on Fleming on May 7 of the previous year.
On November 16, Fleming breached this order by sending emails that were considered threatening in nature, leading to further legal action.
During his trial, Fleming denied that he had wounded the woman, but he was convicted after a hearing at Hull Magistrates’ Court on April 8.
The court noted his admission of harassment between November 8 and 19, 2023, along with the breach of the non-molestation order.
Prosecutors described his conduct as serious and disturbing.
The assault was called 'callous' because Fleming punched the woman at her injury site, and the threatening messages were deemed 'appalling'.
Despite having no previous convictions and demonstrating some remorse, Fleming was handed a 20-month suspended sentence, along with a 120-day alcohol abstinence order, 25 days of rehabilitation, and was ordered to pay £500 in compensation and £150 in legal costs.
A restraining order was also issued against him for five years.
