MARK CAMPBELL OF FIFE SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AND ABUSE
A sex offender from Fife, Mark Campbell, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of subjecting a woman to repeated rape and sexual assault, as well as abusing a young girl.During the court hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh, Campbell was described as having carried out a series of violent and sexual attacks. The victim, an adult woman, was subjected to indecent assaults, physical violence, and was grabbed by the neck during these incidents.
Campbell, aged 49 and formerly residing on University Terrace, Pittenweem, was convicted of multiple charges after denying them at an earlier trial. The offences took place between 2005 and 2013 across various locations in Fife.
The court heard that Campbell violently attacked the woman, shoving her against a wardrobe, throwing her onto a bed, and spatting in her face. She was also raped and indecently assaulted by Campbell on several occasions from 2005 to 2009.
In addition, Campbell was convicted of abusing a girl from the age of five, which involved shouting at her, calling her names, threatening her with violence, and even threatening her pet dog. His specific actions included grabbing the girl, pushing her against a wall and onto the floor, and compressing her neck. He also molested her and made inappropriate and indecent remarks.
Judge John Morris KC commented on the case, stating: “The jury convicted you of five charges involving physical assaults and sexual assaults.” He added, “You will appreciate for the sexual assaults only a substantial prison sentence is appropriate.”
Defence solicitor advocate Richard Souter acknowledged the impact of Campbell’s criminal actions on the victims, stating, “Mr Campbell understands he faces a lengthy custodial sentence.” He also mentioned, “It is clear that he has suffered from depression for the majority of his adult life.”
As a result of his offenses, Campbell was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely. The court also issued non-harassment orders, forbidding him from contacting or attempting to contact the victims for an indefinite period.
