THORNABY MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT AND HARASSMENT OF EX-GIRLFRIEND
Mark Blowes, aged 38, was found guilty of a violent attack on his former partner.The incident took place on April 3, 2023, when he seized her by the throat with both hands and forcefully slammed her head against a radiator following an argument at her residence.
It was reported in court that a child was present during the assault and began to scream while the violence was underway.
After the attack, Blowes started vandalizing the property and shouting at the woman, attempting to seize her phone as she threatened to call the authorities.
The victim, who was bleeding heavily from her head, managed to kick him and escape, then contacted his mother to explain what had happened.
Several weeks later, Blowes sent threatening messages to his former partner, including threats of self-harm and further violence, leading her to notify the police.
She described Blowes as a "nasty, possessive bully," and the judge emphasized the gravity of the assault considering a child was present.
Blowes admitted to charges of assault causing actual bodily harm, harassment, and criminal damage.
He has a prior conviction for domestic violence.
At sentencing, he was sentenced to two years in prison but was released immediately after serving time equivalent to this period in detention and electronic monitoring.
A five-year restraining order was also issued to prevent him from contacting the victim.
