DUNDEE RAPIST JAILED FOR NINE AND A HALF YEARS AFTER ATTACKING TEEN
Police have detained Mark Arnott, aged 37, who was previously released from prison for robbery and only 20 days later committed a sexual assault in Dundee.Arnott attacked an 18-year-old woman in a car park at West Henderson’s Wynd on November 23 last year, threatening her with a knife and forcing her into sex.
CCTV footage captured him running up behind her, grabbing her, and she was found with a condom packet in his hand.
Despite her pleas, he continued his assault until he was chased away by a nearby group of people.
Arnott was later traced through DNA evidence and police interviews, during which he falsely claimed they 'clicked' and that she 'changed' after realizing she'd been seen.
The victim has suffered severe trauma, including self-harm, suicidal thoughts, nightmares, and flashbacks.
Arnott admitted to the rape charge at the High Court in Glasgow and was sentenced by Judge Lord Mulholland to an extended term of nine and a half years in prison with four years of supervision after release.
The court acknowledged his recent release from prison and the suffering he inflicted on the young woman, who now struggles with trust and daily life.
Police praised the victim’s courage and the community’s cooperation in his arrest and prosecution.
