MARIAN SWIERZY JAILED IN TAUNTON FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
In July 2017, Marian Swierzy, a 59-year-old resident of Holly Close in Taunton, was sentenced to a total of 21 months in prison following a series of disturbing criminal acts involving minors.Swierzy appeared before Judge David Evans at Taunton Crown Court on Monday, July 3, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of sexual assault, possession of indecent images of children, and voyeurism.
Prosecutor Raymond Tully provided the court with details of the case, revealing that one of Swierzy’s victims, a young girl, had reported feeling uncomfortable due to his inappropriate touching and attempts to engage her in unsuitable conversations.
The girl recounted that Swierzy asked her about French kissing and boyfriends, using language that was clearly inappropriate for her age.
He also placed his hand on her thigh, and when she expressed her discomfort and asked him to stop, he responded with a threatening 'death glare,' which was intended to intimidate her.
The investigation was triggered when police arrested Swierzy in March 2016.
During questioning, he claimed that his interest in photography was the motivation behind the images he had taken, including photographs of a girl in the shower, which he justified as being of 'artistic merit.' However, police officers seized multiple devices from his home and uncovered a total of 12 images classified as Category C child abuse images.
Among these were photographs of three young children in a bathtub, which he falsely claimed had been taken with permission.
It was later confirmed that these images dated back to 2012 and that Swierzy’s assertion of consent was untrue.
The court heard that Swierzy’s behavior was driven by a sexual interest in the young girls, which appeared to escalate over time.
His actions included inappropriate sexual conversations in front of other children and touching a girl in a manner that was unmistakably sexual.
When the girl asked him to stop, he responded with a 'death glare,' a clear attempt to intimidate her into compliance.
Judge Evans emphasized that Swierzy’s conduct had caused significant emotional distress, leaving a lasting legacy of anxiety and upset for the victims.
Despite his claims that the photographs were purely artistic, the evidence demonstrated a clear sexual attraction and intent.
Swierzy kept the images for an extended period, further indicating his inappropriate interest.
The court sentenced him to eight months for the sexual assault charges, to be served concurrently, and an additional 10 months for possessing indecent images.
A further three months was added for voyeurism, to be served consecutively, resulting in a total sentence of 21 months.
Additionally, Swierzy was subject to a sexual harm prevention order and will be registered as a sex offender for the next ten years, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the need for ongoing monitoring.
