CIVIL SERVANT SENTENCED OVER CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A senior civil servant has avoided jail time after confessing to the possession of hundreds of indecent images of minors.
Marco Salzedo, aged 59, appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Friday where he pleaded guilty to charges related to the possession of child abuse material.
Residing in Aylsham, Norfolk, Salzedo was employed at the Cabinet Office at the time of his detention.
He received a 12-month community order, was instructed to complete 120 hours of unpaid work, and was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of five years.
The criminal activity occurred between July 2021 and April 2025, culminating in his arrest on suspicion of making and possessing indecent images of children.
Charged in November, Salzedo subsequently admitted to having in his possession a total of 312 images and videos depicting minors, including 139 categorized as A, featuring images of babies.
At the time of his arrest, Salzedo held the position of director overseeing commercial and contract management at the Cabinet Office but has since been dismissed.
A spokesperson for the department said: "The individual was suspended after arrest.
His employment with the Civil Service has since been terminated."
